24 Hour Fitness - How to Successfully End Your Membership No Matter What
If you want to end your membership, staff will sometimes try to convince you that you cannot. Here's what you do:
Go into your gym location and speak with a manager.
Tell the manager that you would like 24 Hour Fitness to Terminate Your Membership, it doesn't matter if it's with or without cause. They CAN do this at the location, regardless of what they may tell you. You can find the clause in your contract under Cancellation - Termination - Refunds.
If they tell you they won't because you haven't "violated 24 hour fitness rules", then just tell them you're prepared to discuss this matter (and their deceptive conduct) with other customers IN THE GYM. Or just violate any of their rules (you are within your legal rights to do so, they cannot file any charges).
Remember, after they terminate your membership YOU ARE ENTITLED TO A REFUND OF UNUSED PREPAID DUES - this means you get at least last month's membership fee back (sometimes the prorated remainder of the current month's fee). Check your bank account to make sure they don't keep charging you, and call corporate to follow up. Be prepared for a long wait, haha they do that to try to get you to go away without getting your money back :P
HOLD YOUR GROUND - they will repeatedly try to convince you that you are not eligible for a refund. YOU ARE ENTITLED TO A REFUND, AS CLEARLY STATED IN THE ABOVEMENTIONED SECTION OF YOUR CONTRACT.
24 hour fitness = unethical business practice, HOLD THEM TO THEIR CONTRACTUAL OBLIGATIONS, NO MATTER HOW MUCH THEY TRY TO BULLY YOU INTO LEAVING
Reason of review: Return, Exchange or Cancellation Policy.
Location: Portland, Oregon

IT WORKS! Using the law to protect your rights as a consumer is awesome! One thing to add: make sure you insist on receiving a FULL REFUND (the prorated rest of the month thing, plus your last month's fee), you really have to insist, they'll keep trying to say you can't get it back, just tell them you're prepared to take them to small claims court and they'll have to pay your cost from doing so, and they'll give you a refund.
